OUR MISSION

The Wenham Council on Aging  provides programs and services to enrich the lives of older adults in the community.

All Wenham seniors (60 years and older) are invited to participate in the Council’s many activities.  The Wenham Council on Aging regularly hosts activities at the American Legion/Wenham COA Senior Center on School Street.

    36th Annual Meals on Wheels Valentine Breakfast Fundraiser – Friday, February 12th / 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.  This breakfast will be held at The Gloucester House Restaurant, 63 Rodgers Street ~ Seven Seas Wharf, in Gloucester.  Tickets are $10.00 per person / $8.00 for senior citizens.  This breakfast supports SeniorCare, Inc’s Meals on Wheels Program.  Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance by calling Tom Tanous, SeniorCare, Inc. President.  Tom’s phone number is 978-468-2394.  If there is enough interest, the H-W COA Van Program may be able to provide transportation, leaving Wenham at 7:30 AM, and returning back to Wenham between 9:30 and 10:00 AM.  For more information on transportation, call the COA Van Program at 978-468-5534.

     

    WHAT’S GOING ON IN HAMILTON and WENHAM?   NOW YOU’LL KNOW!

    Community Organization:  ICOC launches shared and searchable calendar for the two towns. Representatives of several organizations in Hamilton and Wenham , united in the Inter-Community Organizations Council (ICOC), have created a shared and searchable calendar.   People planning an event will be able to find the optimal date to schedule a new event, and residents can easily find events they want to attend.  To use the new calendar go to http://hw.eventkeeper.com

    Noon Time Meals at Enon Village.  Noon time meals are served Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from starting at 12:00 Noon.  These meals are open to any area senior age 60 and over.  A $2.00 donation is requested.  Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance.  To make a reservation or for more information, please call Meal Program Coordinator Maggie Carney at 468-0141.

    Saturday Coffees –  September 2009 through June 2010 - The coffees are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month (unless otherwise noted).   Coffee is ready at 9:30 AM and the program begins at 10:00.  Bring a friend – all area seniors are welcomed.  

    Outreach Coordinator - Friendly home visits and assistance in obtaining at-home services.  Please call the coordinator, Gerry Morenski at 978-468-5529.

    Wellness Clinic - 4th Wedesday Monthly ~ 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM.  Free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.  Also available - Podiatry Clinic.  For podiatry needs, please bring your Medicare/Insurance cards - possible $25.00 charge.  Call 468-5529 for podiatry appointments - walk ins for screenings are welcomed.  Seniors from neighboring towns are always welcomed!  

    Movie Morning - The third Tuesday of every month at 10:00 AM.  There will be no movie in January.  Showing in February will be Julie and Julia - the story of Julia Childs.  All seniors from the North Shore are invited to attend.

    Low Vision Support Group – This group meets once a month from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, on the 4th Tuesday, and shares techniques, suggestions and stories about living with low vision.  From time to time, guest speakers will be scheduled to provide more detailed information about living with low vision.  The support group is open is all area seniors who have been diagnosed with low vision as well as their caregivers.   For Hamilton and Wenham residents - if transportation is needed, please call the COA Van at 978-468-5534.

     Friends – The Council on Aging has been approved by the state of MA to start a "Friends" group.  This group will raise money for the Wenham COA to use towards programs for our seniors not funded by the town budget.  For more information about the friends group, click here,  or you can call 978-468-5529 or email us.   

    COA Art Galery - The COA Art Galery is open Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM No need to travel to see great works of art - the COA Art Gallery is open for all to stop by.   Showing January and February, Ipswich resident Miranda Updike.

    Handyman Program - The COA's Handyman Program is available for area seniors.  If you have small items to be repaired, such as table and floor lamps, chairs and small tables, etc, they can be dropped off at the Center School/Town Hall (School Street).  To drop your items off, enter through the building using the door entrance in between the Town Hall and Buker School.  The room is the first room on the left as you go down the stairs (Room 23).  Each item should be tagged with the owners name, phone number and address.  The work will be done free of charge unless parts are needed.  The owner will be responsible for the parts but will be notified of the cost before the repair is made.  Electronics such as VCR's and TV's are not included.  Items may be dropped off Monday through Friday during normal business hours.  The handymen plan to meet one day a week to do the repairs.  If you have any questions regarding this program, please call the COA office at 48-5529.  This group is looking for more members to join in order to assist with the work.  If you are "handy", please let us know.  Any age is welcomed to assist with the work.

    TRIAD Council - TRIAD is a partnership which involves Senior Citizens, Law Enforcement Agencies (Sheriff / Police / District Attorney) and Support / Protective Services (Councils on Aging / Elder Services / Clergy, etc.) who agree to work together. Their primary goals are to reduce the criminal victimization of older citizens and enhance the delivery of services to this population. TRIAD provides the opportunity for an exchange of information between law enforcement, support services and senior citizens. It focuses on reducing unwarranted fear of crime and improving the quality of life for seniors.   If you are interested in serving on the council, please call the COA office at 978-468-5529.  Click on COA Outreach to see what programs TRIAD currently offers.
